Sir Andrew John Street CBE is a distinguished British businessman and Conservative politician, best known for his leadership as Managing Director of John Lewis and as Mayor of the West Midlands. Born in Banbury, Oxfordshire, Street moved to Birmingham as an infant and was educated at King Edward’s School, Edgbaston, before studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Keble College, Oxford.

Street began his career at the John Lewis Partnership in 1985 as a graduate trainee. Rising through the ranks, he became Managing Director in 2007, overseeing a transformative period that saw a 50% increase in gross sales and significant expansion of the company’s online presence. His success in retail was matched by his commitment to regional development, serving as Chair of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership from 2011 to 2016.

In 2017, Street was elected as the first Mayor of the West Midlands. He was re-elected in 2021 but narrowly lost his bid for a third term in 2024. Knighted for his services to business and public life, Sir Andrew continues to advocate for inclusive economic growth and sustainable urban development.
